With 240 exhibitors at this year’s edition of Art Basel Hong Kong, it would be impossible not to find a wide variety of works, styles, and subject matter across the fair’s various aisles. But, more than Art Basel’s other exhibitor lists, the Hong Kong iteration consistently stands out for its diverse representation of galleries from outside the US and Europe. There’s, of course, strong representation from Asia, with galleries hailing from China, Japan, Korea, India, and Southeast Asia. But there’s also this year, a stronger emphasis on rising and established galleries from across Africa and the Middle East.
It all makes for a unique enterprise, where you are often exposed to art not seen at other blue-chip fairs. That’s by design, according to Vincenzo de Bellis, Art Basel’s global director of fairs and exhibition platforms.
“It’s very important that we try to map the region at large,” de Bellis said, before adding that ultimately Art Basel Hong Kong’s diverse geographical spread is a credit to the maturation of the art scenes and influx of talent in those regions. “The quality is what drives every selection.”
That rings true on the fair floor so long as one is willing to seek out the lesser-known galleries participating, particularly those on the third floor.
Below, a look at the best presentations at the 2025 edition of Art Basel Hong Kong, which runs until March 30.
